Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco will begin his rehab assignment with Single-A Clearwater on Wednesday. The Phillies would like to activate Polanco next Monday if he has no setbacks in minor league games in the interim. Polanco was placed on the disabled list on July 23 (retroactively) due to lower back inflammation.
Polanco is scheduled to play five or six innings at third base on Wednesday. On Friday, he will be the team's designated hitter and try to play nearly a complete game at third base on Saturday. When Polanco is activated from the disabled list returns to the Phillies lineup, he is expected to split time with Kevin Frandsen.
On the season, Polanco is hitting .255/.300/.328 with two home runs, 15 doubles, 17 walks and 19 RBI in 82 games.
