Phillies-Nationals Final Score: Washington Blanks Phillies 3-0

The Philadelphia Phillies came into Thursday night with a chance to sweep the NL East-leading Washington Nationals. However they couldn't get it done, losing in the nation's capital 3-0.

The Phillies couldn't get anything going against Ross Detwiler, who threw seven innings of shutout ball. Detwiler allowed only three hits and two walks throughout his outing, keeping Philadelphia off-balance the entire evening.

Cole Hamels was solid in his own right, but ended up being saddled with his sixth loss of the season. The southpaw also went seven innings while surrendering three runs, eight hits and a walk while striking out nine.

Adam LaRoche did most of the damage against Hamels, hitting a solo home run in the second as part of his 3-for-4 game. The first baseman also scored a run while driving in two.

Even with the loss, the Phillies took the series in Washington and will now head home to face the Arizona Diamondbacks for a three-game set starting Friday night.
