MLB Trade Rumors 2012: Cliff Lee Did Not Clear Waivers, Contract Could Inhibit Trade

Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee did not clear waivers, according to a report. There is no indication of which MLB team claimed Lee.

However, acquiring Lee in a trade from the Phillies will not be an easy proposition for the team which claimed him. Before the non-waiver trade deadline at the end of the July, the Phillies were reportedly unwilling to pickup any of Lee's salary ($95 million left on his contract). In addition, the Phillies wanted to land a top prospect in exchange for Lee. Even if something can be worked out, Lee could still block a trade to 21 different MLB teams on his no-trade list.

On the season, Lee is 2-6 with a 3.73 ERA. Lee's first win of the season did not come until July 4.
