Cole Hamels pitched a complete game shutout, giving up just five hits and striking out six as the Philadelphia Phillies blanked the Atlanta Braves, 3-0, on Tuesday night in Game 2 of the three game series at Citizens Bank Park. Hamels improved to 12-6 on the season. The complete game was his first of the season.
The Phillies did all of their scoring in the first inning. Jimmy Rollins led off the inning with a double, setting up a Domonic Brown RBI double to give Philadelphia a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Ryan Howard hit his fifth home run of the season to put the Phillies up 3-0. Braves starter Mike Minor (6-8) finished his night after seven innings having given up three earned runs off seven hits and two walks.
Game 3 of the series is set for 7:05 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Kyle Kendrick (4-9, 4.45 ERA) and Atlanta's Tim Hudson (11-4, 3.45) will be the starting pitchers.
