Philadelphia Union Vs Seattle Sounders: Carlos Ruiz Free Kicks Puts Philly Up 1-0

On a very wet day at PPL Park, the little fish seems to be in his element. The man they call “El Pescadito” (the little fish), put the home side up 1-0 with a fantastic free kick past Sounders keeper Casey Keller.

In the 31st minute, Kyle Nakazawa was brought down just a few yards outside of the Seattle penalty box. The Sounders defender earned a yellow card the Union got themselves a free kick. Ruiz stepped and bent an absolute beauty over the Seattle well and past the diving arms of Keller.

The game is being played in a persistent, driving rain that has actually forced the Phillies to cancel their game tonight. The rain, probably combined with the fact that both the Sixers and Flyers are in playoff games going on right now, has led to a rather sparsely attended PPL Park. The quieter than usual crowd certainly hasn’t affected the Union as they dominated play for large stretches of the first half.
