The Philadelphia Union lost their semifinal game of the 2012 U.S. Open Cup to Sporting Kansas City by a final score of 2-0 at PPL Park on Wednesday night. The loss eliminates the Union from the U.S. Open Cup, while sending Sporting KC to the finals.
Jacob Peterson scored the first goal for Kansas City. His head shot converted a free kick by Graham Zusi. Zusi struck again when he sailed a shot from midfield into an open net late in the game to give KC their second goal, sealing the win.
Kansas City will host the winner of Wednesday night's second semifinal game between the Seattle Sounders and Chivas USA in the finals at Livestrong Sporting Park. That game will take place on either Aug. 7 or 8.
