2012 MLS All-Star Game: Union's Carlos Valdes Added To MLS All-Star Gameday Roster

Philadelphia Union defender Carlos Valdes was named to the 2012 MLS All-Star Game when the gameday roster was announced on Sunday during halftime of the New York Red Bulls-Seattle Sounders match.

Valdes was one of two selections made by MLS Commissioner Don Garber as part of the collective bargaining agreement. Garber also selected San Jose Earthquakes defender Ramiro Corrales. D.C. United coach Ben Olsen also made five selections as the MLS All-Star head coach. Olsen selected Seattle's Osvaldo Alonso and Eddie Johnson and Real Salt Lake captain Kyle Beckerman as well as his own player Chris Pontius and Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.

Valdes has played every match for the Union for the past two seasons and anchors a defense that ranked second in goals against average in 2011. The Colombian international will be making his first MLS All-Star appearance.

The MLS All-Stars will play English Premier League power Chelsea on July 25 at PPL Park.
