The Sixers held their annual media day today and of course Andre Iguodala was asked about the rumors swirling about a possible deal that would send him to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for Carmelo Anthony.

I don’t really pay too much attention to it. I have friends and family that ask me about it, but that’s about the only time that I hear it. But the reaction is that it’s a business. Those things are going to come up no matter who the player is. You have to feel honored somebody else respects your game and your work ethic. Where my focus is right now, along with Elton and the other guys, is to get this team where it needs to be."

If I had to guess how he feels from his comments here… I don’t think he strong feelings either way. He’s not angling to get out of Philadelphia, but I don’t necessarily think he’d be a crushed by a trade either.

Stephen A Smith is also reporting that the Sixers and Denver Nuggets are in talks about disgruntled F Carmelo Anthony, but he’s hearing that the Nuggets are big fans of Andre Iguodala.

A well-connected league source said the Sixers have been speaking with the Nuggets about potential trade scenarios and that Denver is interested because they badly want Andre Iguodala. The Sixers will jump at the opportunity to land Anthony, but only for themselves. The source said they are not interested in facilitating a multi-team deal.

Problem is, Stephen A also reports that Carmelo Anthony does not want to come to the Sixers. Anthony’s unwillingness to come to Philadelphia should come as good news for our Sixers’ blog, Liberty Ballers, who are categorically opposed to the proposed trade.

The Sixers and Denver are talking about a potential trade that would bring Carmelo Anthony to Philadelphia and send Andre Iguodala to Denver, a Western Conference executive has confirmed to the Daily News.

The executive said Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri has spoken with Ed Stefanski.

While Anthony and Iguodala are the principal parts of the trade, there would need to be other players involved for the salaries to match up.

If the Nuggets are looking for the best value in return, it's hard to imagine that the Sixers could offer anything better than the reported Nets package of #3 overall pick Derrick Favors and two first-round picks.

After last week’s report that there were no negotiations between the Nuggets and Sixers, Kate Fagan has reported that the Sixers will be contacting the Nuggets about Carmelo Anthony.

The sentiment around Liberty Ballers is that trading Andre Iguodala for Carmelo Anthony would be a mistake. Being the third team in the Carmelo deal would be much more enticing, and possibly enable the Sixers to acquire recent Rod Thorn draftee Derrick Favors. If rebuilding is the current goal, Favors makes much more sense long-term.

We’ll keep you updated as Fagan does.

A source told Kate Fagan of the Philadelphia Inquirer the Philadelphia 76ers are “not in any discussions at all” to land All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets. Why? Because, says Fagan, “the franchise believes it has no real shot at Anthony,” as he would refuse to sign a contract extension with it next summer. Because Anthony can become a free agent after this season, he does have some say in determining where he winds up via trade, as he can simply indicate that he would not commit to his new team long-term. And no team, especially not the 76ers, wants to give up too many assets for a one-year rental of Anthony.

Essentially, Fagan’s report shoots down the rumor Ken Berger of CBS Sports started earlier this week when he wrote the 76ers and Nets had entered the bidding for Anthony, and speculated that a three-way trade between Denver, New Jersey, and Philadelphia could benefit all parties involved.

Anthony, 26, has made three All-Star appearances in his seven-year career, and has the fifth-highest scoring average of all active players with 24.7 points per game.

This trade is one of the more interesting to surface this summer, but it’s also (sorry Sixers’ fans who want Anthony) very unlikely to go down.

Not even a little bit of surprise here although the 12 hours of intrigue certainly was riveting. If this still means the Iguodala-Anthony-Favors threeway is a possibility, count me in.
CBS Sports's Ken Berger writes with an interesting update on the Carmelo Anthony situation. To briefly recap: Anthony has been offered a three-year $65 million extension by the Denver Nuggets but has not accepted it and there have been persistent rumblings that he wants to be traded.

Berger is the first major media figure to link Anthony with the Philadelphia 76ers in these trade talks. He writes...

That is where another team equipped with attractive assets could enter the picture, multiple sources said: the Philadelphia 76ers. New team president Rod Thorn and GM Ed Stefanski - who formerly worked together in New Jersey - could be central to constructing a deal that would compel the Nuggets to move Anthony rather than endure a season-long distraction that ends with Anthony leaving as a free agent after the season. The key pieces of the Philadelphia equation would be the expiring contracts of Jason Kapono ($6.64 million) and Willie Green ($3.98 million), a young talent such as Thaddeus Young, and Andre Iguodala, who is coming off a solid contribution to Team USA's gold-medal performance at the FIBA World Championships. Some executives believe the Sixers would at least discuss including No. 2 overall pick Evan Turner if it meant getting Anthony, but that would defeat the purpose of going over the luxury tax to get Anthony in the first place.

Not since Allen Iverson's heyday have the 76ers seen a star of Anthony's magnitude.
