The Philadelphia Phillies are struggling. Nowhere was that more evident than at Citizens Bank Ballpark on Wednesday night when the New York Mets battered the home team in a 10-5 win, completing a three-game sweep.

Once again, for the third game in this series, the Mets came from behind for the win. Trailing 4-2 at the top of the seventh, Justin Turner belted a one-run double off Kyle Kendrick. The Phillies reliever then hit pinch hitter Lucas Duda to score the tying run. The wheels came all the way off after that, and Kendrick would allow three more earned runs to give the Mets a big lead.

Cliff Lee struck out six and surrendered two earned runs in his return from the disabled list, giving the Phillies something positive to take away from the game.

Freddy Galvis accounted for three of the Phillies' RBIs, and was a home run short of the cycle in his three-for-four night.

The sweep by the Mets comes on the heels of a series lost to the Nationals over the weekend. Philadelphia managed to win Sunday night's game there. Charlie Manual's team gets a day off on Thursday before starting a three-game home series against the San Diego Padres on Friday.

The Philadelphia Phillies might have to try and avoid being swept by the New York Mets on Wednesday without Laynce Nix, Carlos Ruiz and Ty Wigginton (via Philly.com).

All three players are battling minor injuries according to manager Charlie Manuel. Ruiz has an undisclosed hand injury that stemmed from him "jamming" his hand. He did not participate in batting practice. Wigginton also did not take batting practice due to "soreness in his side." Nix has a sore calf but did participate in batting practice.

When the batting order for tonight's game was released, John Mayberry Jr. was listed as the starter at first base (via Phillies). This will be the third straight start at first base for Mayberry who is hitting .224 this season.

The Philadelphia Phillies will be trying to avoid being swept by the New York Mets on Wednesday.

Philly blew a 4-1 lead on Tuesday night by allowing six unanswered runs. Charlie Manuel's bunch also had a good opportunity to win the first game before Jordany Valdespin hit a three-run blast in the ninth inning off Jonathan Papelbon.

The Phillies will hope that Cliff Lee can break the losing streak. Lee has been terrific this season posting a 1.96 ERA. Incredibly his record is 0-1 with his last start being a 10-inning masterpiece where he didn't allow a run. He didn't get a decision.

The Mets will counter with Dillon Gee on the bump. Gee has been average with a 2-2 record and a 4.50 ERA. He's coming off of a nice outing where he gave up just two runs over six innings to Arizona.

Even though it's only May and the Phillies have well over 100 games to play, this is a big game. Being swept at home, especially by a rival, can be devastating.

The Philadelphia Phillies lost, 7-4, on Tuesday night for their fourth loss in five games, and second to the New York Mets in as many days. The Phillies battered Mets starter Miguel Batista with eight hits in his 5 1/3 innings on the mound, and took a 4-0 lead after two innings.

Hunter Pence hit a two-run home run in the first inning, and Pete Orr and Shane Victorino hit an RBI single and double, respectively, in the second to give Philadelphia a comfortable early lead. Batista settled down before being relieved by Manny Acosta, giving up three more hits for the rest of his stint on the mound.

Daniel Murphy put the Mets on the board with a single to score Kirk Nieuwenhuis in the fourth. Otherwise, Phillies starter Joe Blanton was solid on the mound until the sixth, when he put two men on then gave up a run-scoring single to Nieuwenhuis. Chad Qualls replaced Blanton after the hit, and gave up a David Wright single that scored two and advanced Wright to third on a throwing error by Pete Orr. The blunder allowed the Mets to tie the game at four runs apiece.

Lucas Duda broke the tie with a single off Antonio Bastardo on the next at-bat to give his team the lead for good. New York scored again off a Nieuwehuis sac fly and Duda single in the ninth to cap scoring at 7-4.

Manny Acosta earned the win after allowing no hits and no runs in 2/3 innings on the mound in relief of Batista. Qualls was tagged with the loss. Orr and John Mayberry Jr. went 2-for-4 from the plate, and Juan Pierre went 2-for-5.

A night after having closer Jonathan Papelbon give-up a game-winning home run to a rookie taking his first swings as a major leaguer, the Philadelphia Phillies will turn to seemingly, reliable veteran right-hander Joe Blanton to help earn a victory in Game 2 of a best-of-three series against the visiting New York Mets (7:05 p.m. ET on PHL 17).

On Monday, in the series opener, Philadelphia was handed a disappointing late-inning loss when Mets pinch-hitter, Jordany Valdespin, smashed a three-run homer into the right field seats in the ninth inning. The at bat was Valdespin's first in the big leagues.

The Phillies hope the tides can turn Tuesday, as Blanton (3-3, 283 ERA) takes the mound opposing 41-year-old Miguel Batista (0-1, 6.92 ERA). Blanton is coming off his best start of the season, a complete-game shutout of the Atlanta Braves who managed three hits, while Batista is making the move from the bullpen to the starting rotation.

The Philadelphia Phillies dropped Game 1 of their three-game series against the New York Mets after Jonathan Papelbon gave up a three-run home run to Jordany Valdespin in the ninth inning. Valdespin was pinch-hitting for pitcher Tim Byrdak when he sent his first major league hit over the right field fence. The 24-year-old was called up when shortstop Ruben Tejada was placed on the disabled list before the game.

Byrdak earned the win after retiring the only batter he faced to leave one man on in the eighth inning. Roy Halladay started and pitched seven innings, recording seven strikeouts and giving up two earned runs and five hits. Papelbon walked Ike Davis and gave up a double to Mike Nickeas before turning Valdespin into an unlikely hero.

The Phillies took a 2-0 lead off of Mets starter Jonathon Niese after two innings. Jimmy Rollins hit a double on Philadelphia's first at-bat of the game and eventually rounded home on a John Mayberry Jr. sac fly. Placido Polanco capped the Phillies' scoring in the second inning with a double to score Carlos Ruiz.

Both of Halladay's earned runs came in the sixth inning. He retired the first two batters he faced in the inning, but got himself into some trouble when he walked Andres Torres and gave up a Kirk Nieuwenhuis single. David Wright hit a double to tie the game at two runs apiece.

Roy Halladay and the Phillies look to get back in business against the surprising New York Mets on Monday night at Citizens Bank Park.

Roy Halladay needs to get something going. Tonight wouldn't be a bad time to find his groove.

The Philadelphia Phillies will welcome in the New York Mets for a three game series starting on Monday night.

Halladay hasn't been bad this season, but he just hasn't been his dominant self. The hurler has a 3.40 ERA, but was touched up in his last outing, giving up eight runs in five and a third to the Atlanta Braves.

Seeing the Mets is always a welcome site however for Halladay. He's never lost to them since becoming a member of the Phillies, compiling a 7-0 record with an ERA south of two.

New York will have Jonathon Niese on the mound. Niese has been shaky all year but does possess quality stuff. He has already beaten Philly this year back on April 14th, when he pitched six and two thirds without allowing a run.

The Mets are coming off of a series win against Arizona, in which they won the last two games. The Phillies on the other hand lost two of three to Washington, although did avoid being swept with a 9-3 win Sunday.

This is a huge series early in the year for the Phillies and Halladay, who need to get on the right track sooner rather than later.
