The Philadelphia Phillies concluded a three-game set against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday afternoon with a 6-2 victory. The Phillies managed to take two of the three meetings, which marks the second straight series that the club has won.

Philadelphia put the game out of reach early thanks to a four-run second inning, which was boosted by a three-run home run from catcher Eric Kratz and an RBI single by John Mayberry. In the third inning, the lead was aided once again by the long ball when Chase Utley hit a two-run home run.

Starting pitcher Roy Halladay carried the cushioned lead through 7.1 impressive innings that saw the right-hander allow one earned run on eight hits in addition to recording five strikeouts.

Mike Leake was pegged with the loss as he allowed six earned runs on six hits in 2.1 innings of work.

Former National League MVP Joey Votto will make his return to Cincinnati Wednesday afternoon after missing much of the season recovering from two arthroscopic knee surgeries. The Philadelphia Phillies hope to spoil his return.

The Phillies will send Roy Halladay (8-7. 4.02 ERA) to the mound on Wednesday. The 35-year-old right-hander is 3-1 in his career against the Reds. He will look to rebound from a poor start against the Braves last Friday where he gave up four runs (two homers) on seven hits and four walks in just over four innings of work.

Struggling right-hander Mike Leake (4-5, 4.45 ERA) will take the mound for the Reds. In his last seven games, he is 3-2 with a 5.45 ERA.

The Philadelphia Phillies' Kyle Kendrick and the Cincinnati Reds' Mat Latos matched zeroes much of the night, but it was Reds outfielder Jay Bruce who was the difference maker, connecting on a two-run homer to give the Reds a hard-fought 2-1 victory on Tuesday.

Latos gave up just one run through seven innings and Kendrick surrendered just two in six innings pitched at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.

The Phillies scratched across their first and only run on a Domonic Brown bases loaded walk in the fourth inning. That was all the scoring the game featured until Bruce drove Ryan Ludwick home with a two-run shot to right field in the sixth inning.

Bruce's blast was all the Reds needed, as Jonathan Broxton and Aroldis Chapman combined to shut out the Phillies in the eighth and ninth frames.

The Philadelphia Phillies and Kyle Kendrick (8-9, 4.01 ERA) will try to clinch a series win against the Cincinnati Reds and keep the Phillies' dim playoff hopes alive. Kendrick has won his last four starts, but the Reds will answer with Mat Latos (11-4, 3.79), who had a 2.61 ERA over the month of August. The Reds will give leadoff man Zack Cozart a rest, starting Wilson Valdez at shortstop in his place and bumping Drew Stubbs up to the top of the order.

The Phillies' Jimmy Rollins will be trying for his 2,000th career hit on Tuesday. If he can get it, he'll be the fourth Phillies player to reach that milestone.

The Phillies will try to clinch their series against the Reds Tuesday night with Kyle Kendrick on the hill.

Cincinnati holds the second-best record in baseball, but the Phils now lead the season series against the Reds after an impressive performance by Tyler Cloyd in the opener on Labor Day. Cloyd gave up only four hits and struck out nine in seven innings, shutting down one of the NL's most potent lineups.

Kendrick now takes the ball Tuesday night looking for his fifth straight win. The 28-year-old righty had a great month of August and has allowed only four runs in his last four starts. He'll be opposed by Mat Latos, who's 11-4 with a 3.79 ERA. The Reds are firmly in control of the NL Central with an 8.5-game lead over the Cardinals, but they're battling the Nationals for the best record in the league.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET and the Phils will look to play spoiler by taking the series.

The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Cincinnati Reds in the first game of a three-game set on Monday afternoon by a final score of 4-2. It marked the first Major League win for rookie starting pitcher Tyler Cloyd.

In his second appearance in the big leagues, Cloyd put together an impressive showing that saw the 25-year-old right hander strike out nine over seven innings while only allowing four hits. His lone mistake came in the second inning when he gave up a solo home run to Jay Bruce that gave the Reds an early lead. However, the miscue didn't bother the young pitcher as he coasted through the rest of the game.

Jimmy Rollins came to Cloyd's aide when he hit a three-run homerun in the fifth inning and John Mayberry added to it by hitting a solo homerun in the sixth.

Only one day removed from an embarrassing loss against the Atlanta Braves in which the club's bullpen allowed five earned runs in the bottom of the ninth, the Phillies relief pitchers managed to close out the game without too much trouble, although Phillippe Aumont had to put in some work on the way to his first Major league save.

Johnny Cueto was pegged with the loss after allowing four earned runs on eight hits in seven innings pitched.

Tyler Cloyd lost his Major League debut but looked alright for a Phillies team after a strong performance at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He'll square off against MLB wins leader Johnny Cueto Monday.

Johnny Cueto leads the National League in wins, ERA, and WAR. Philadelphia will hope to take him down a peg or two in the Monday matinee that opens a three-game series between the Phillies and Reds.

Philadelphia likely won't have an opportunity to blow a four-run lead in two straight games as they face one of the best pitchers in the National League: Cueto (17-6, 2.48) has kicked it into gear recently, earning wins in eight of his last 10 outings. One of those other two was a few weeks ago against the Phillies, when he gave up two runs in five innings as the Reds fell 4-3.

While Cincinnati sends someone looking to top the league in wins to the mound, Philadelphia will send someone looking for their first ever: Tyler Cloyd, who had a 2.35 ERA at Triple-A Lehigh Valley and earned the International League's Most Valuable Pitcher award, looked alright in his MLB debut Wednesday, giving up three runs in six innings but coming away with the loss. Cloyd's performance will probably be the most compelling part of the Labor Day matchup, as the 25-year-old is trying to show his potential on the big league level after catching many in the Phillies organization off-guard by being a surprising minor league ace.
