The Philadelphia Union lost, 3-2, to the Columbus Crew on Saturday, but remained in eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

The Union have 30 points on the season, one more than the New England Revolution. The Revolution could have tied or jumped Philadelphia this week, but they lost to Houston, 2-0. Philadelphia's 30 points put it in a tie for 16th place out of 19 MLS teams. The Union, however, have played fewer games than the other MLS teams and are 14th in points per game.

Philadelphia trails the Montreal Impact by 10 points for the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference and with just five regular season games remaining, it's highly unlikely the Union would be able to catch the Impact. Instead, they will likely continue to battle with New England for the eighth spot.

Sporting Kansas City continues to lead the Eastern Conference with 58 points, while the San Jose Earthquakes currently lead in the Western Conference -- and for the Supporters' Shield -- with 61 points.

The Columbus Crew got a very important three points on Saturday night, beating the Philadelphia Union 3-2 in a crazy match at Columbus Crew Stadium.

Columbus held a 2-0 lead after the first half on two goals by Jairo Obando Arrieta, one in the 44th minute and one in stoppage time. However, the match became frantic in the second half with both sides going for broke.

Philadelphia cut the lead in half when Danny Cruz scored on a penalty kick in the 57th minute, then the Union tied the score at two on a Roger Torres marker at 86'.

Incredibly, the Crew struck with a quick and decisive blow just one minute later when Milovan Mirosevic put Columbus up for good, 3-2.

The Union controlled possession for 57 percent of the match, but couldn't hold off a desperate Crew team. With the victory, Columbus vaulted itself into fifth place and the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with Houston's game still in progress.

The Columbus Crew are taking care of business against the Philadelphia Union. winning 2-0 at halftime.

The Columbus Crew are beating the Philadelphia Union 2-0 on Saturday evening at Columbus Crew Stadium.

The Crew has looked dominant early on, scoring the only two markers in the game thanks to Jairo Obando Arrieta. The gifted forward made his presence felt late in the first half, finding the back of the net in the 44th minute and in extra time.

Despite the Union controlling possession for 62 percent of the time, Columbus has been able to dictate play by outshooting Philadelphia 8-2. The Crew have also been accurate, putting five of them on frame while the Union is yet to test Columbus' goalkeeper, Andy Gruenebaum.

The contest has been player within the rules for the most part, with only Union defender Amobi Okugo drawing a yellow card.

Columbus is desperate for a win, as it currently sits sixth in the Eastern Conference, just one point behind the Houston Dynamo for the fifth and final playoff slot.
