After what Philadelphia general manager Tony DiLeo had to say Saturday, it doesn't sound like Andrew Bynum will be back anytime soon.

Philadelphia 76ers general manager Tony DiLeo made it clear Saturday that there is still no timetable for Andrew Bynum's return from his knee injuries, according to CSN Philly's Dei Lynam.

Here's what Philly's GM told the media in his impromptu press conference about Bynum's injuries which include bilateral bone bruises and "weakened cartilage" in each of his knees:

"The bottom line is Andrew is out indefinitely...We don't know when he'll be back. Only Andrew can answer that question - his body can answer that question. Basically there are no timelines."

DiLeo went on to add that the team is "looking at the big picture" in Bynum's situation so they are not in the mindset to rush his return.

As Lynam points out, Bynum has played with bone bruises in the past. In 2011, he missed the final game of the regular season with the same injury before returning for the playoffs just five days later.

The Sixers still have 70 games on their schedule but fans will surely continue to question Philadelphia's participation in the past summer's blockbuster trade as Bynum misses more and more action.

The Sixers hold New Orleans to 33.3 percent shooting from the field for the game.

It may not have been a very high-scoring game, but the Philadelphia 76ers didn't mind. They won a defensive struggle over the New Orleans Hornets, 77-62.

Philadelphia's defense was in top gear on Wednesday night. The Hornets failed to score 20 points in any quarter and shot just 33.3 percent from the field for the game.

In a poor offensive game for almost everyone on the floor, Jrue Holiday was stellar. He finished with 14 points and 12 assists on the evening. Evan Turner also had 14 points for the 76ers.

Only one Hornets player could muster double-figures in scoring, and he barely did. Al-Farouq Aminu finished with a team-high 10 points despite shooting 3-for-11 from the field. He did have 16 rebounds from the many missed shots in the game.

The 76ers, who are now 2-2 on the season, are back in action on Friday when they face the Boston Celtics.

Without Andrew Bynum, the Philadelphia 76ers need to play smart, pesky defense, according to Philly.com's Bob Cooney.

If the Philadelphia 76ers are going to have success on defense without Andrew Bynum, they're going to have to boast a "smart, pesky" defense -- at least according to Philly.com's Bob Cooney.

Cooney points to Philadelphia's win over Denver as the exact type of defense Philadelphia needs to play in Bynum's absence.

They have to rely on a pesky, smart and fast defense, as opposed to one that can gamble and wait for the big presence in the lane to swat away shots and reject and mistakes that may occur out front. They won't be able to do that until their huge center, Andrew Bynum, gets onto the court.

Bynum, who was acquired from the Los Angeles Lakers in August, has a bone bruise, and has yet to suit up for Philadelphia. Head coach Doug Collins said that Bynum will not play until he is 100 percent pain free, and said he had "no idea" when Bynum will return.

Still, Philadelphia's defense looked just fine against Denver without its new big man on the court. As Cooney pointed out, Denver was the league's top scoring team in 2011-12, and the Sixers held the Nuggets to just 75 points in Denver's season opener.

Philadelphia's next test will come against the New York Knicks on Sunday -- the same Knicks team that scored 104 points against the Miami Heat on Friday night. We'll see if Collins' defense can play smart and pesky again.

Jrue Holiday has signed a four-year, $41 million contract extension with the Philadelphia 76ers, just minutes before the midnight deadline.

Jrue Holiday has signed a four-year, $41 million contract extension with the Philadelphia 76ers, just minutes before the midnight deadline for the draft class of 2009, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. The new deal will keep Holiday with the 76ers through the 2016-17 season.

USA Today's Sam Amick reports that incentives could allow Holiday to make up to $46 million.

There was considerable doubt that Holiday and the 76ers would come to terms. Holiday had made noise that he wanted a maximum contract early in the summer, a request the 76ers seemed unwilling to meet. In the end, Holiday will make $3 million less than Stephen Curry and $7 million less than Ty Lawson over the next four years.

Holiday has developed into one of the NBA's best young point guards under 76ers coach Doug Collins. Last season, the 22-year-old Holiday averaged 14.4 points and 4.8 assists per game. He is also one of the league's best defensive point guards, and the hope is that he can make another jump over the duration of his new contract.

It wasn't the return to Philadelphia that Andre Iguodala was hoping for. His Denver Nuggets fell to the Philadelphia 76ers, 84-75, in their season opener on Wednesday.

Iguodala was traded to the Denver Nuggets in the offseason as part of the Dwight Howard deal. Philadelphia's most notable returns were Andrew Bynum, who did not play on Wednesday, and Jason Richardson, who finished with 10 points.

In his return to Philadelphia, Iguodala's shot was off the mark. He was just 5-for-13 from the field and finished with 11 points.

Philadelphia got a big game off the bench from Spencer Hawes. In 31 minutes of action, Hawes finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Jrue Holiday also had a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 11 assists.

The Nuggets were led in scoring by Ty Lawson, who finished with 16 points.

The 76ers will be back in action on Sunday night when they travel to New York to play the Knicks.

Philadelphia welcomes Andre Iguodala back to town.

It hasn't been an ideal homecoming for Andre Iguodala so far in his return to Philadelphia. At halftime, his new team, the Denver Nuggets, trail the 76ers, 46-38.

Iguodala has a modest 7 points and 3 rebounds, and is just 3-for-10 from the field.

The early story of the game has been the surprising production Philadelphia has gotten from its bench. Spencer Hawes and Dorrell Wright have come off the pine to lead all scorers with 12 points each.

Wright has done half of his damage from the free throw line, where he has made all six of his shots. One of the new Sixers acquired in the Iguodala trade, Jason Richardson, has six points at the half.

The Nuggets are getting some bench production of their own from Andre Miller, who leads the team with 8 points. This is Philadelphia's only home game before hitting the road up to New York on Sunday.

From Dei Lynam at CSN Philly: Former 76er Andre Iguodala is more focused on making his debut for the Denver Nuggets than returning to Philadelphia for the season opener.

Dei Lynam of CSN Philly writes that ex-76er Andre Iguodala isn't putting extra pressure on himself because he's facing his former team.

"I think it is different only because it is the first game, so the dynamics are different," Iguodala said ... "If it was January or February and I was accustomed to the team already I would have the chance to enjoy coming back here a little more," Iguodala continued. "But really, I have been just trying to think about the [Nuggets] and how to get off to a good start."

The Philadelphia 76ers will kickoff the 2012-13 regular season against Andre Iguodala and the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night.

The Philadelphia 76ers will kickoff the 2012-13 regular season on Wednesday night when they host the Denver Nuggets at Wells Fargo Center.

This will mark the return of Andre Iguodala, whom the 76ers traded as part of the four-team blockbuster this offseason, which brought star center Andrew Bynum to Philadelphia. Iguodala was originally drafted by Philadelphia with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft and spent the last eight seasons as a key member of the team. On Wednesday morning, he posted a letter on his official website thanking the city and its fans for their support during his time with the franchise.

While the Nuggets will be able to view their new addition on opening night, the Philadelphia faithful will not be as lucky as the 76ers announced on Tuesday that Bynum will be out indefinitely due to a lingering knee injury. As of this time, it appears as though Lavoy Allen will act as the starting center with Spencer Hawes and Kwame Brown acting as backups.
