College Basketball Preseason Top 25: Temple, Villanova, Drexel Receive Votes In AP Poll

Temple, Villanova and Drexel all received votes in the AP men's basketball preseason Top 25 poll.

Three Philadelphia teams received votes for the AP men's basketball preseason Top 25, but no area teams garnered enough votes to make the list.

Temple (69 votes), Villanova (44) and Drexel (8) all received votes from the panel of 65 media members across the United States. Missouri will begin the season No. 25 after accumulating 139 votes.

North Carolina was the runaway No. 1, ranked first on 62 of the 65 ballots. UConn (No. 4) took two first-place votes, and Ohio St. (No. 3) had the other.

Temple, which has won three of the last four Atlantic 10 basketball postseason tournaments, was chosen to finish second behind Xavier in the A-10 conference. Seniors Ramone Moore and Juan Fernandez were selected to the A-10 preseason first team.

Villanova lost its final six games last season, including a first-round NCAA Tournament loss to George Mason. The Wildcats need to replace three of the team's top four scorers, but do return Maalik Wayns, a preseaon candidate for the John Wooden Award.

Drexel returns six of its top seven players after a 21-10 finish last year and was picked to win the Colonial Athletic Association.
