Temple will not be one of the teams invited to join the Big East Conference, according to an Associated Press report.
The Big East Conference will invite Boise State, Navy and Air Force for football only and SMU, Houston and Central Florida for all sports, a source told The Associated Press.
Boise State and Air Force would join the Big East from the Mountain West, and Navy would join the conference after being an independent school. SMU, Central Florida and Houston would all relocate from Conference USA.
Temple and was reportedly one of three finalists for the last two Big East spots, alongside Houston and SMU. Some reports said Villanova did not want to share the Philadelphia market with another Big East team and blocked Temple's inclusion.
Reports say Big East commissioner John Marinatto has had face-to-face meetings with officials at Boise State, Air Force and UCF.
"We have not received an invitation from the Big East. However, we understand that things are moving in that direction," UCF spokesman Grant Heston told ESPN's Joe Schad on Tuesday.
