The Temple Owls resumed play in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off on Friday, but fell for the first time this season against the Purdue Boilermakers, 85-77.
The Owls (2-1) lost despite a 27-point effort from guard Ramone Moore, who shot 8-18 from the field and 10-15 from the free throw line. Juan Fernandez and Khalif Wyatt each added 12 points in the losing effort.
Purdue guard Lewis Jackson poured in 26 points to lead the Boilermakers (4-0). Robbie Hummel contributed 20 points and six rebounds.
Temple trailed by ten points late in the first half, but finished the half with a 6-0 run to enter intermission behind 34-30. The Owls continued to scrap their way back into the game in the second half, eventually taking a 40-39 lead when Moore made a layup with 15:31 remaining in the game.
But Purdue surged back ahead, sealing the game by scoring their last nine points from the free throw line.
