Temple vs. Pitt score: Panthers lead Owls, 14-7

Through the first quarter of play, the Pittsburgh Panthers lead the Temple Owls, 14-7, in the Big East clash.

Pittsburgh got the scoring started early in the game, when Rushel Shell rushed for a one-yard touchdown run, less than five minutes into the game to give the Panthers an early 7-0 lead.

Temple was unable to respond early, failing to convert a third-down play during the entire first quarter.

Consequently, Pitt was able to add to its lead. Tino Sunseri hooked up with J.P. Holtz for an 18-yard touchdown, giving the Panthers a 14-0 lead.

Temple, though, would respond this time.

After a 77-yard kickoff return by Matt Brown gave the Owls excellent field position, Chris Coyer found Cody Booth in the end zone, for a nine-yard touchdown strike.

Still, the Owls need to play better if they're going to hang with the Panthers. Pitt has outgained Temple, 145 yards to just 54 through the first quarter of play.
