Temple, Big East Talking, According to MAC Commissioner

Temple is in discussions with the Big East about rejoining the conference as early as next season, as confirmed by MAC Commissioner Jon A. Steinbrecher.

The football team had previously competed in the Big East from 1991-2004, but due to poor results on the field was ousted from the conference and eventually joined the MAC. The program has resurged in recent seasons, and won nine games in 2011 under head coach Steve Addazio.

The remainder of Temple's athletic programs have competed as members of the Atlantic 10 conference, and the move back to the Big East would include the entirety of the Temple athletic department.

The Big East has seen major conference changes recently, including the departure of West Virginia, which will join the Big 12. As a result of the realignments, the Big East has added seven schools to its conference, but most are planning to join in 2013.
