NCAA Tournament 2012: USF Comes Back To Upset Temple 58-44

On a night where two #2 seeds fell, #5 Temple’s ouster at the hands of #12 USF won’t register as one of the more shocking upsets of the night… but it will certainly serve as a very disappointing ending to what, until two weeks ago, had been a very strong campaign from Temple.

The Bulls will now advance to take on #13 seed Ohio, who pulled off a shocking upset of #4 Michigan.

Heading into March madness, Temple was on a roll. They’d won 24 games, won the Atlantic 10 regular season title and entered the conference tournament as the #1 seed. That’s when it all started to go wrong. They were one and done, being ousted by UMass in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Tonight, they failed to bounce back and suffered the same fate at the hands of South Florida.

After both teams put on a pretty poor first half display, Temple led 19-15. However, USF would turn it on in the second and the Owls really never did. The Bulls put up 43 second half points, while Temple could respond with only 25.

Khalif Wyatt led all scorers with 19, but did so on 5-15 shooting, including 1-6 from beyond the arch. As a team, Temple shot just 2-12 from three point land. They shot just .319 as a team.
