2012 Atlantic 10 Tournament: St. Joe's Vs. Charlotte Preview

In the first round of the Atlantic 10 tournament, No. 5 seeded St. Joe's is set to square off against No. 12 Charlotte on Tuesday night. The winner will move on to the quarterfinals.

If the Hawks win, they will advance to play against St. Bonaventure while is the 49ers are victorious, they'll meet with Temple.

St. Joe's (19-12, 9-7) comes into this game as a heavy favorite to move on. The Hawks have won four of their last six, although they did suffer a double-OT loss against the Bonnies over the weekend.

Carl Jones will need to continue his excellent play to help his team keep their dream alive. Jones has scored 38 points over the past two games including 18 against a win over Temple. Ronald Roberts Jr. has also stepped up big lately, scoring 18 points in each of the past two games.

Charlotte (13-16, 5-11) is buoyed with the knowledge it already beat St. Joe's in their only meeting this year, 57-52. However, the 49ers have lost their last three and five of six, barely making the tournament at all. The difference in the orignial meeting was free throws. Charlotte had 22 attempts while the Hawks only had seven.

With all of that said, St. Joe's is playing for everything while the 49ers are playing out the string. The Hawks might need to run the table in order to make the NCAA Tournament, but it isn't out of the question to make it with a very strong showing in the A-10 tourney.
