The Temple Owls controlled the first half of the Atlantic 10 Tournament quarterfinals Friday afternoon against the Massachusetts Minutemen, taking a 36-31 advantage into halftime at Atlantic City.
UMass has scored at least 80 points in four of its last five outings, but Temple controlled the pace for the most part while holding the Minutemen to 37.5 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes.
The Owls shot 46.4 percent themselves in a balanced effort, assisting on eight of their 13 baskets.
Khalif Wyatt paced the Owls with eight points, Ramone Moore pitched in five points, four rebounds and three assists, and Juan Fernandez and Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson each contributed six points. Micheal Eric also did his part with five points and six rebounds .
Maxie Esho and Chaz Williams scored seven points each for UMass.
