Villanova Basketball: Wildcats Upset #3 Syracuse For Major Big East Win

Two top ten teams, Big East rivals, both led by some great Philly born players… Villanova went on the road for their biggest game of the season so far and knocked off #3 Syracuse at the Carrier Dome. Villanova now has 13 wins at the Dome, which is the most of any Big East opponent.

Philly native Maalik Wayns led the way for the Wildcats with 21 and outshined Syracuses’ Philly contingent led by Scoop Jardine and Rick Jackson. That said, Jackson did have a big game with 16 points, 15 boards and 3 blocks. The two Coreys finished with 16 a piece and Antonio Pena pulled down 8 boards to give the Villanova seniors their third win at Syracuse.

In the end, the Wildcats won this game because they absolutely shot the lights out. Nova hit 11 three pointers and were a ridiculous 22-24 from foul line.

This was Villanova’s first road win against a top ten team since 1995.
