St. Joe's Crushes Villanova 74-58 In big 5 Upset

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) – Langston Galloway led the way with 20 points as Saint Joseph’s downed Villanova, 74-58, in Big Five action at Hagan Arena.

For the Hawks (8-3), Galloway received help from Carl Jones, who finished with 15 points. Ronald Roberts added 12 points and nine rebounds, and C.J. Aiken scored 11 points and blocked four shots in the win.

The Wildcats (6-5) were led by Maalik Wayns with 19 points. Darrun Hilliard and Markus Kennedy chipped in with eight points apiece. in the loss.

After the teams traded leads early in the first, Saint Joseph’s went on a 12-0 run to take control of the half. Villanova was able to rally and Saint Joseph’s took a slim 30-27 lead into halftime. The Hawks came out strong after the break, starting the second half on an 11-2 run to push their advantage to double digits. After the Wildcats cut their deficit to eight with just under eight minutes to play, the Hawks used a 16-4 run to push their lead up to 20 and seal the victory.

After shooting 43.3 percent in the first half, Saint Joseph’s came out blazing in the second half, hitting on 58.1 percent of its field goals. Villanova struggled all night from the floor, making just 33.3 percent of its shots for the game, including a woeful 5-of-27 from three-point range. The Hawk were also able to outrebound the Wildcats, 42-34, and outscored them in the paint, 44-28.
