Penn Relays 2011: Marcos Sanchez, Kelly Curtis Win Decathlon, Heptathlon

The 2011 Penn Relays gets underway in full this morning, but the Men's Decathlon and Women's Heptathlon finished up yesterday. Puerto Rico's Marcos Sanchez won the Decathlon after capturing six of the seven events, including three yesterday. Sanchez won the the shot put, long jump, 100 meter dash, 110 meter hurdles, discus and javelin. He finished with 7,178 points, besting Penn State's Anya Uzoh by 133 points.

Timothy Nickas of Mount St. Mary's, Austing Strine of Shippensburg and Fred Boone of St. Paul's College rounded out the top five.

Kelly Curtis of Springfield College captured the Heptathlon despite not actually winning any events. Curtis, who hails from Princeton, New Jersey is the third woman from Springfield college to win the Heptathlon at the Penn Relays. The rest of the pack finished as follows.

Krystal Ellis (Montclair State) and Alexis Easterling (Coppin State) did not finish.
