Dad Vail Regatta 2011 Results: Purdue, Michigan Take Home Aberdeen Trophys

The Dad Vail Regatta, the largest collegiate rowing event in the United States, was held this weekend on the Schuylkill river in Philadelphia. The big winners on the weekend were two Big 10 schools as Michigan captured the Men's heavyweight 8 titles and the Purdue women took the women's title. The schools will take home the Aberdeen Trophy in honor of their wins.

Purdue amassed the most points overall through all events this weekend with 41 points. They also led all women's squads with 21. The St Joe's women came in second with 17 overall points. Michigan led all men's events with 33 points and finished second to Purdue overall, also with 33. Delaware had a strong showing, finishing third overall with 27 points on the back of their men's team.

The local schools were competitive in both of the headliner races with that Delaware men squad finishing third. The St Joe's women made the final, but finished a disappointing sixth. There were plenty of local squads with success however.

The Villanova women will take home the Margaret McNiff Trophy for winning the Women's heavyweight 4 with coxswain. Temple took second in the Men's 4 lightweight. St. Joseph's won the Women's JV Heavyweight Eight final. Drexel captured the Men's pair.
