The Villanova Wildcats lead the Seton Hall Pirates 37-28 after the first half of play from The Pavilion.
Villanova came into the game just 1-5 in Big East play. Seton Hall was a surprising 4-2 in Big East play. The Wildcats needed something to give to have a chance to look for their second Big East win. What gave in the first half at least was Seton Hall's three-point shooting. The Pirates shot just 3-17 (all three from Brandon Mobley who was 3-3) from behind the arc in the first half. They did not turn the ball over much, hit their free throws and got 9 points off of Villanova turnovers which kept the score closer than it could have been.
Villanova led by as many as 12 in the first half while shooting 44.8%. Eight turnovers prevented the Wildcats from extending the lead even further before halftime. Villanova outrebounded the Pirates in the first half and outscored them 18-10 in the paint as well.
Seton Hall was led by 12 points from Mobley. Herb Pope chipped in six points for the Pirates. Villanova had balanced scoring in the first half. Maalik Wayns, JayVaughn Pinkston, James Bell, Darrun Hilliard and Dominic Cheek all had at least six points and no more than 10 points (Wayns).
