Would it be a curious decision? Yes. But Villanova guard Dominic Cheek is reportedly considering whether to forego his senior season in favor of entering the 2012 NBA Draft, and may be leaning toward doing just that.
Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Cheek, who averaged 12.5 points for a disappointing Villanova team this season, is likely to leave school for the draft. CBS Sports' Jeff Goodman reported last week that he has also been hearing rumors of Cheek's departure for the NBA.
According to Zags Blog, at least one NBA scout is surprised Cheek would even consider leaving school.
"What's going through his head?" one NBA scout asked of Cheek, who sources confirmed to SNY.tv is considering coming out this year. "I mean, it's crazy. What has he done that makes him think he can go into the draft?
"It doesn't make any sense. He was higher-rated coming out of high school than he is now."
Cheek shot just 39 percent from the field and 32 percent from behind the arc during Villanova's 13-19 campaign, which resulted in the program missing the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2004.
Players have until April 10 to decide whether to stay in the draft.
